MATLAB, created by MathWorks, is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis, and numeric computation. Using the MATLAB product, you can solve technical computing problems faster than with traditional programming languages, such as C, C++, and Fortran;

Parallel Computing Toolbox
Lets you solve computationally and data-intensive problems using MATLAB and Simulink on multicore and multiprocessor standalone computers. Parallel processing constructs such as parallel for-loops, distributed arrays, parallel numerical algorithms, and message-passing functions let you implement task- and data-parallel algorithms in MATLAB at a high level without programming for specific hardware and network architectures. A single toolbox license allows a user to work with up to 8 processors/cores on a single machine.

Additional Product for Cluster Computing

MATLAB Distributed Computing Server
Lets users solve computationally and data-intensive problems by executing MATLAB and Simulink based applications on a computer cluster. A user can program and prototype applications on their laptops/desktops using the Parallel Computing Toolbox and then scale up to a cluster using this product. MATLAB Distributed Computing Server is available for all hardware platforms and operating systems supported by MATLAB and Simulink. It includes a basic scheduler and directly supports Platform LSF, Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server, Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008, Altair PBS Pro, and TORQUE schedulers. This is a product is offered separately, it is not included in the Penn Bundle.

Student Licensing

For students only, MathWorks offers The MATLAB & Simulink Student Version license. The MATLAB & Simulink Student Version license provides qualifying students with a standalone, perpetual license of MATLAB and Simulink plus seven full-featured add-on products. Student Version includes R2010a versions of nine products, and runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Complete documentation is included on the DVD. The MATLAB & Simulink Student Version is intended for homework use (not for research) by verified students only. Students must provide valid proof of student status to activate their copy; Students may purchase MATLAB at the Penn Computer Connection.

August 1 - July 31
Users pay annual maintenance fee that must be renewed each July.

Licensed to:

The software is licensed to faculty and staff of the University of Pennsylvania, HUP and CHOP for Penn-related academic use or Penn-related academic research use.

Other licensing information:

Other licensing information: One standalone license allows a user to run MATLAB and the tools provided in the bundle on one standalone computer. Network (concurrent) licensing is also available upon request.

The primary user of the software may, in addition to installing MATLAB on an office computer, also install a copy of MATLAB on a home computer, provided that the copies are not in use at the same time.

The MathWorks Penn Bundle (standalone or network) cannot be run on a cluster, grid, Web server, server farm, or other similar scheduled environment. If you are interested in running MATLAB on a cluster, we offer the MATLAB Distributed Computing Server product separately.

Pricing and distribution:

The license and media are separate products. Software may be downloaded via your MathWorks login, or a DVD may be purchased from OSL at a nominal cost.
