MOOCs at Early Adopter Universities and Online Education

Deke Kassabian will give the main presentation at August SUG on the subject of MOOCs at Early Adopter Universities. 2012 was called the "Year of the MOOC" by the New York Times. During 2013, Deke's doctoral research involved studying the way MOOCs were being used by Harvard, Columbia and Duke--three of the elite early adopter universities. In this presentation he'll describe the evolving MOOC landscape, his research questions, and the process of gathering and analyzing data in a formal way producing findings to be written as a doctoral dissertation.

A few key findings will be discussed after which there will be an open discussion of MOOCs and online education and their potential role in college and university education, casual education, and education research.
